Lee Ufan - La Respiration de l'infini
An artist, writer and philosopher, as well as the founder of the Mono-Ha movement, Lee Ufan is one of the most prominent Korean artists on the international scene. In 2001, he received the prestigious Praemium Imperiale Prize (painting), equivalent to the Nobel Prize. His works, recognised worldwide, are part of major collections. The Centre Pompidou, the Pinault Collection, MoMA (New York), the Brooklyn Museum (New York), the Guggenheim Museum (New York) and the National Gallery in Prague are just a few examples. His sculptures, exhibited in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, have attracted tens of thousands of visitors and have been praised by critics.
For this book, Lee Ufan, both artist and author, offers a collection of refined watercolours, following his Eastern influences. They are in line with his paintings and works on paper. He has also punctuated his work with unpublished poems.
"The Universe,
Starting from a point,
Continuing as a line,
And returning to a point,
Is a spectacular wonder." (Lee Ufan, excerpt)
