Torimoto Glass Studio – Spiral
During a visit to Torimoto Glass Studio in the mountains of Kyoto’s Kyōtanba, the founders of Saum encountered a glass spiral that resonated deeply with them. Nestled between rivers and forests, the home and studio of Yusuke and Yuya Torimoto is filled with objects they have lovingly gathered—each carrying meaning, each reflecting the warmth of family life.
The spiral, a core totem of Saum, symbolizes growth, continuity, and the upward movement of creation. Seeing this motif interpreted in glass felt like a profound alignment between Saum’s vision and Torimoto’s craft. With great kindness, the Torimoto duo recreated this spiral object for Saum, infusing it with their own sensitivity and quiet strength.
Hand-blown in their mountain kiln, the glass spiral embodies both stillness and motion—a reminder of life’s unfolding paths and the beauty found in each turn.
