Made-to-order DEFICELER Bouyei Moon Tube Top
Inspired by the fishnet motif from the traditional Bouyei women’s collar in Anshun Zhenning and the revolutionary triangle from El Lissitzky’s 1919 Bolshevik poster "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge", the brand’s iconic “Bouyei Moon” element was created. In this strapless dress, the element is translated into a soft, skin-friendly, lustrous knitted waistband. The skirt body is made of slightly elastic wool jersey fabric combined with traditional Bouyei handwoven cotton plaid.
The Bouyei people mainly reside in Qiannan and Qianxi in Guizhou Province, and are one of the many ethnic groups living together in the southwestern region of China.
Crafted from stretch wool jersey and pure cotton handwoven Bouyei plaid, the dress honors both ancient textile traditions and contemporary design.
Part of DEFICELER Blue Label – each piece is a collaboration with artisans from Southwest China’s ethnic minority communities. Handmade in their local villages using time-honored techniques like weaving, embroidery, and batik, these garments are then tailored in Shanghai. By integrating deconstructed silhouettes with authentic crafts, DEFICELER builds a dialogue between ethnic aesthetics and modern fashion.
The Bouyei plaid tells a story. Woven without written language, its patterns pass down knowledge from one generation to the next—colors seen from afar, textures appreciated up close. In today’s industrial textile world, these women continue to weave their meaning into existence: imperfect, irregular, but deeply human.
